Overview

Amritsar is a city in the northwestern Indian state of Punjab, known for its rich history, culture, and spirituality. The city is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in India, including the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Wagah Border.

The Golden Temple, also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is the holiest shrine for the Sikh community. The temple is made of gold and is surrounded by a man-made pool, known as the Amrit Sarovar. Visitors can enter the temple complex, participate in the langar (community kitchen) where free vegetarian meals are served, and witness the daily rituals of the Sikh community.

Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden that is infamous for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, where hundreds of unarmed civilians were killed by British soldiers. The garden is now a memorial to those who lost their lives in the massacre and serves as a reminder of the struggle for India's independence.

The Wagah Border is a border crossing between India and Pakistan, known for its daily flag-lowering ceremony. The ceremony is a spectacle to behold, with soldiers from both countries engaging in a show of pomp and pageantry.

Amritsar is also known for its rich cuisine, with dishes such as Amritsari Kulcha, Chole Bhature, and Lassi being popular among visitors. The city is also a shopper's paradise, with bustling markets such as the Hall Bazaar and Guru Bazaar offering a variety of products, from traditional Punjabi clothing to handicrafts and souvenirs.

Overall, Amritsar is a city that offers visitors a unique blend of history, culture, and spirituality. Whether it's exploring the Golden Temple, witnessing the Wagah Border ceremony, or indulging in the city's delicious cuisine, Amritsar is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to India.
